How’s the air in your community?

Monitoring tools will empower communities to check the air quality in their neighborhoods

In mid-2025, a collaborative initiative called AIRNET (Air Monitoring Network and Education Center) will enable six communities in Saint Paul and Minneapolis to check their air quality on a web-based dashboard on this website. The dashboard will show information from air quality monitoring equipment installed in these neighborhoods.

What is AIRNET?

AIRNET is funded by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, which selected the Great Plains Institute (GPI), a Minneapolis-based nonprofit, to develop the community-based air quality monitoring project. GPI is partnering with six communities across Saint Paul and Minneapolis to install air quality monitoring equipment to do the following:

  • monitor air quality in neighborhoods
  • address community air concerns
  • work with community partners to learn more about their air quality

The six communities include the following:

  • East Phillips Neighborhood Institute (EPNI)
  • Greater East Side Community Council (GESCC)
  • North End Neighborhood Organization (NENO)
  • Payne-Phalen Community Council (PPCC)
  • Union Park District Council (UPDC)
  • West 7th/Fort Road Federation (West 7th)

In addition to GPI, AIRNET’s support team includes TD Enviro, JustAir, and Twin Cities PBS (TPT).
